The workshop week was organised in Brussels at BC Materials & Studies, with students from universities across Europe. Students immersed themselves in geo- and biobased materials through visits, lectures, and workshops exploring the intersections of architecture, circularity, and material innovation through the act of making. The days consisted of morning lectures, hands-on workshops, and evening debates, creating a shared space for students and professionals to exchange knowledge and insights through experimentation and challenge.All students participated in three workshops: Atelier Build, Atelier Lab, and Atelier Prototype ATELIER BUILDAtelier Build immersed students in a full scale construction project, guiding them through planning, logistics, and on-site material execution. Across three phases, students explored traditional and mechanised plastering techniques, and constructed a loadbearing rammed earth pillar, giving them firsthand experience of the complexity of real construction work. ATELIER PROTOTYPEAtelier Prototype workshop investigated the transformation of natural materials, specifically bamboo, into structural systems through hands-on experimentation, with students working directly in space rather than through drawings or digital tools. In small groups, students explored bamboo joinery techniques and progressed from small-scale tests to the construction of long structural elements, culminating in the assembly of a collaborative dome. ATELIER LABAtelier Lab focused on understanding earth construction at 1:1 scale, introducing students to earth building techniques and the tools used in their execution. The workshop centred on the construction ofa rammed earth column and the application of earth plaster. Students experimented with various plaster compositions and finishes, while also learning how to prepare foundations and construct a full-scale rammed earth column. Through hands-on making, the workshop provided practical insight into the material, its behaviour, and its construction processes.
