Verb: To reframe/ Material: Raw Sheep WoolThis project reframes the conventional life-cycle of sheep’s wool. Raw wool, a locally sourced material, is currently undervalued and often treated as waste. The design offers both temporary storage and a celebration of the material’s unique aesthetic, acoustic and tactile characteristics, embodying a sober functionality in contradiction to the folly, as a “non-functional structure, one which enhances the natural landscape”. Offered by, and collected from local farmers, the raw sheep’s wool is transported to site, stored and celebrated, before re-entering the material’s future cycle of production. A modular assembly of larch frames allow the structure to be dismantled or relocated. By interrupting the material life-cycle, the often overlooked stage of storage is instead celebrated, reframing a local resource often considered as waste to one of inherent value and potential.
