Verb: To weave / Material: FlaxThe timber frame of the existing barn becomes a loom, within which weaving is understood as a constructive act. Using as little as a thread of locally sourced flax and the barn itself as a loom, textile elements are woven between and within the structural frame, generating spaces that are specific to the barn’s geometry, proportions, and historic fabric. The irregular weave and semi-transparency of the textiles are essential qualities of the project: they allow the woven surfaces to form permeable rooms, modulate light and air, and guide movement through space.
