Verb: To soften/ Material: FeltThe aim of the design is to soften and slow down the experience of entering the barn. The original entrance is extended through a sequence of felt layers that require a zigzag movement to pass through. As you move further inside, these layers become thinner and more transparent. The outer, stretched felt tent is made of thick, stiffer yurt felt, in which the natural wool grease (lanolin) is still present, making it weather resistant. Inside the barn, the felt is hung from the roof trusses using felt strands pulled directly out of the material, creating one continuous and cohesive system. The slowing and softening effect of the design stands in contrast to the rough character of the barn.
