Verb: To preserve/ Material: WoolThe intervention is based on the material wool and the verb to preserve. While lying on my wool carpet, I began to question how it is produced, which led me to research the manufacturing processes of wool. Today, wool is rarely processed in Europe, and many traditional working methods are disappearing. The project transforms part of the barn into a space that preserves the structures of the building while explaining these processes, transferring knowledge, and inviting visitors to experience wool firsthand. Preservation here means saving wool from being discarded and protecting the knowledge, skills, and cultural practices connected to it, inspired by the approach of the Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d’Opale. Wool is used as a building material to fill and insulate the structure, while interior walls store raw wool as removable seating and felted wool clads the exterior to prevent moisture, showing how different processing methods give wool multiple architectural functions.
